Mapping and Harvesting Abundance

WCHG-163This project has been developed to make the best use of the large number of surplus fruit and vegetables. By mapping, harvesting and preserving produce from allotments and orchards, such as at Wythenshawe Community Farm and the Walled Garden, we will reintroduce people to foods available on their doorstep. We will also foster community ownership and explore opportunities for sustainable enterprises.

Update:

  • Wythenshawe’s Garden City event saw 200 people getting involved with apple pressing and juice tasting of locally-sourced apples.
  • Mapping existing fruit trees in public spaces and private gardens, with donors volunteering their unused fruit harvest for community use
  • Working with Abundance Manchester to coordinate fruit tree care workshops and new tree planting at at Kenworthy Orchard and potentially set up an Abundance Wythenshawe group, with volunteer engagement. Check the What’s On section for more details.
  • Established Outdoor Growing subgroup with Flagship 2.
